Sun over the Patomic Washington D.C. Cherry Blossom
There are only a few days per year in the spring time when the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom. It was a topsy-turvy lead-up to the bloom in 2017. A warmer than normal winter led into a very warm February. That brought the cherry blossoms to the verge of blooming around mid-March. It was even shaping up to be possibly the earliest on record.
Then an arctic blast hit slowing the development to a crawl. The NPS says that about half of the cherry blossoms survived the cold and that they expect those to be fully blooming late this week
I was there on March 23 and witnessed a full-throated, dramatic bloom for which DC's cherry blossoms are famous.
